IAMES 2026-Madrid
The International Association of Middle Eastern Studies (IAMES) welcomes you to register for our 2026 conference to take place at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid on June 10-12, 2026 in Madrid, Spain. The conference, which is being held in honor of IAMES founders Tareq Ismael (1939–2024) and Jacqueline Ismael (1942–2023), will feature paper presentations, panels, roundtables, film screenings and an art exhibition, all organized around progressive themes and exemplifying independent thought regarding the history, political economy, philosophy, sociology, art and culture of the Middle East region, with particular but not exclusive emphasis on contemporary issues and concerns. The conference will also include a special memorial session in honor of the Ismaels and two keynote addresses.
Please follow the instructions below in order to submit your registration fee in accordance with the following scale: US$120 (full-time faculty in the Global North), $40 (full-time faculty in the Global South), $30 (graduate students and precariously employed scholars). Refunds may be granted until eight weeks prior to the conference. Conference registration fees are due by February 15, 2026.
IAMES also invites all conference participants to a group dinner in Madrid that will take place on the final evening of the conference. If you would like to join this event, we ask that you please help us cover the cost with an additional payment of US$10 (full-time faculty in the Global North) or $5 (everyone else), due also by February 15, 2026.
